RN, Weekend Option (West Shore 5 - Med/Surg) - Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is an essential member of the UPMC Pinnacle health care team who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating the total care of patients. Through collaboration with all members of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based nursing care standards to diagnose and treat the human response of the patient and family to illness and disease process, continuously monitoring, analyzing, and improving the performance of clinical activities. The Registered Nurse is self-directed, empowered, and accountable for the direct supervision of all team members and recognizes the importance of interpersonal skills in delivery of care to internal and external customers.Job Requirements: Graduate Nurse of a professional school of Nursing with a current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within one year of hire in the following areas: Dialysis, ICU, Cardiac Telemetry (WS3, CG4, M6, M7). Pediatrics Advanced Life Support within one year of hire in Pediatrics. Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire in Labor & Delivery, NICU, Maternity and Antepartum. *National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification within 90 days of hire in the following areas: HHMSICU, WSICU, CGICU, Emergency, HHM10, WS4, CG2. *Experienced RN's in the Emergency Department – ACLS required or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; PALS required or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. New RN's in Emergency Department – ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of employment. ED Observation RN's – no requirement for PALS, same requirements as ED RN's for ACLS. Magnet Designated Campuses Effective September 1, 2014: All new and existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of date of hire as a Registered Nurse. Campuses seeking Magnet Designation Effective October 1, 2017: All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of October 1, 2017. All newly hired or transferred inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of their date of hire as a Registered Nurse. All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses with more than 20 years of RN experience will be exempt from the requirement to achieve their BSN.All existing nurse leaders are required to obtain their BSN within 4 years. All RNs applying for a nurse leader role must currently have their BSN. All RNs will be required to have their BSN prior to transitioning into a nurse leadership role regardless of years of experience/service and will not be grandfathered. Campuses seeking Pathways to Excellence Effective October 1, 2017: All newly hired or transferred inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of their date of hire as a Registered Nurse.
